A chamber choir composed of music lovers from all walks of life who enjoy singing together. The Novo Concertante Manila was originally formed as a recital choir. It has evolved into an ensemble determined to reinvent itself continuously as it develops a sound that is artistically intelligent. In February 2009, the choir was honored with the “Ani ng Sining” award by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, in recognition of Novo’s achievements in the field of choral music. In its 10-year history, Novo Concertante Manila has represented and won for the Philippines in several international and local choral competitions. Novo won gold, silver and bronze medals at the 2nd Choir Olympics in Busan, South Korea (2002), at the 1st AVoyage of Songs International Choral Competition in Genting Highlands, Malaysia (2003) and at the 23rd Takarazuka International Chamber Choir Competition in Takarazuka, Japan (2007). In 2009, the choir won 1st and 2nd Prizes at the 46th International Chorwettbewerb in Spittal an der Drau, Austria and 1st Prize at the 55th Certamen International de Habaneras y Polifonia in Torrevieja, Spain. The choir has also performed in numerous arts festivals such as the Jubilate Choral Festival in Singapore in 2004, the annual Madz et al Festival and the 1st Manila Choral Festival in 2007. In 2008, the Novo was invited by the Instituto Cervantes Manila to the 2nd International Silent Film Festival, the first time a choir was featured to provide original music for a classic European silent film. The Novo Concertante Manila sings regularly at the Christ the King Church in Greenmeadows, Quezon City every first and second Sundays of the month. |
